Fayetteville Police Department Warns About IRS Phone Scam

Fayetteville, Ark — FayettevIRS Phone Scamsille Police Department warns residents about IRS phone scams during this tax season. 

The police department says that the scam callers will pose as IRS agents and tell victims that if they do not make a payment immediately then they will be arrested. 

Do not make a payment to these scammers and FPD asks you to contact them about the call. 

The IRS website states that it will never request the following:

  • Call to demand immediate payment using a specific payment method such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. Generally, the IRS will first mail you a bill if you owe any taxes.
  • Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
  • Demand payment without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
  • Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
