The Pat Walker Health Center located on Garland Ave. is currently under major construction.
The North half of the building has been completely demolished and the ground is being cleared for the expansion that will be completed next year.
Today was the official groundbreaking of the new facility, renovation, and expansion.
Mary Alice Serafini is the executive director of Pat Walker, and says one of her and her staff’s main focus was on expanding and improving the psychological services on campus.
“We felt the needs of our students have increased a great deal which gives us reason to expand our space for wellness and health promotion, for counseling and psychological services, and for medical care. We want the University of Arkansas degree to be more valuable because of good health,” Serafini said.
The new facility will include three new academic classrooms, a larger space dedicated to health and wellness promotion and administrative services, as well as a 100% increase in counseling and psychological services space and offices.
“This project kinda just, it gets to show what skills we can bring and what we can offer as a contractor,” said Chris Kotter, Nabholz project manager.
With the new building and expansion, the health center will also be adding staff to accommodate for the rising demand in health care and new office space.
