The Obama Administration is making it a priority to fight prescription drug abuse and heroine use in the United States. Today, President Obama released a billion dollar budget to help prevent these issues and provide help for those who need it.
According to data from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), there were over 28 thousand opioid involved deaths in 2014. There is also a continuous increase of heroin deaths and synthetic opioid abuse, but President Obama is hoping this plan will decrease deaths from drugs.
Most of the budget ($920,000,000) will go to the states to increase access to medication assisted treatment. Fifty million dollars will go towards the National Health Service Corps and thirty million will go to evaluating treatment programs.
